Curious case of WordPress Recipe plugins and Google Spammy Structured Markup

Google has recently detected a structured markup on some pages that may be violating the guidelines of structured guidelines. Google further explain that incorrect information always lower the quality of search results for users and due to this, rich snippets will not appear in Google search results for pages with incorrect Structured markup.

Google mentioned one website name pinoyrecipe.net that face the music of manual spam action. Google suggest you to update incorrect structured data with  reconsideration request after correcting. After that Google will check whether you have fixed the problem correctly so that the manual action may get remove .

This thing happened due to few recipe plugins of WordPress.

  • WP-Ultimate Recipe
  • Ziplist
  • Yummly
  • EasyRecipe Plus

These were few recipe plugins that were causing rich snippets manual action problem. So if you are using one of that recipe plugin on your wordpress website then you must update those plugins into latest versions. These recipe plugins are effecting markup reviews and ratings. Actual user can't this because they are markedup into a code which can trigger into a manual action. If you are using any of those recipe plugin that use for reviews and ration then you will get warning  from Google. There is one other thing is those website who use Genesis framework get the most manual action warning so i request you to update into a latest version of Genesis . You can easily test your recipe pages using Google structured data testing tool.
  • Bottom line is with this  manual action all those recipe sites will not be able to show any of rich snippet information in Google search results. So what are you waiting for if you don't want to loose your recipe markup, then make sure you follow all Google guidelines.
